Volkstaat

Volkstaat (Afrikaans for "People's state") is a proposal for the establishment of a homeland for Afrikaners. Outside a possible use of force, the South African Constitution and International Legislation present certain possibilities for the establishment of such a state. The South African regime declared that they would not support a Volkstaat, but "would do everything they could to ensure the protection of the Afrikaner language and culture". What a fine job they are doing.

Volkstaat map 3

What Should happen: Afrikaners and English should all flee to the West coast. The region of choice would be situated between Spoeg Rivier Baai to Radyn and Somnaas Baai to Soebatsfontein as you can see in the attached image. This image is protected by pretty serious mountains to the East. One of the old SAW"s obstacles during the border ware, was logistics - and they had a much more capable force than the SANDF. The SANDF physically cannot maintain a prolonged deployment to this area because of the mountains that are in the way. Sure the Air force can make it, but they will run out of fuel pretty fast, and the war in Iraq has proved that "fast movers" are not capable of targeting a widely despersed group of individuals properly. This could be a safe region. It offers a lot of natural harbours and plenty opportunities for the green thumbs in the Boer community to start a propserous Agricultural industry.

Rooi Jan,

I have no idea of what your background is, but you are obviously uninformed and ignorant when it comes to military operations.

The logistics for the Border War (ware?) was no even close to a problem. Sure, it was a fairly long road but it was an uncontested one and fairly trivial to maintain. Also, the SADF's air-lift capacity was relatively small, especially in terms of their ability to carry main combat vehicles (MBTs, AFVs etc) but for Log it was more than sufficient.

Accusing the SANDF of having a "less capable" force than the SADF is naive to say the least. If there is political will, then there is more than enough capability. You are sorely mistaken in your assumption about the abilities and/or capabilities or else you are blinded by racisim. One of the two.

As far as the mountains being a barrier, that is jsut plain silly. Possibly a barrier to a fast raid, but for a sustained deployment? By definition a sustained deployment means that there would be forward bases, staging areas etc, and that is without even mentioning the ability to operate from the sea which is better now than it was prior to 94.

I think that the real threat to the "Volkstaat" is the fact that the only people who believe that it is a sustainable possibility are a marginalised fringe group who have no concept of the realities involved. It will always remain a pipe-dream. So why don't you relax on your stoep, fill your pipe with some more of that stuff you are smoking, and continue to dream your impossible dreams.
