Afrikaner faces identity crisis: Orania leader
Carel Boshoff, the leader of the self-proclaimed Volkstaat Orania in the Northern Cape, says the Afrikaner community is facing an identity crisis. Boshoff was speaking at Orania's Monument Hill, which has been designed to accommodate statues of Afrikaner leaders from the past government. Some of the figures have been removed from prominent places in the country. Boshoff says the Afrikaner community is struggling with its sense of belonging. "I heard 1 million people have already left the country and half of them would be Afrikaners, so we may have a losing future if we cannot keep our people in this country and create a future for ourselves, so the question for the future of the Afrikaner is a very sincere one," he said.
